Early Years

Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell was born on December 18, 2001, and was given the full name Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell. She was born in Los Angeles, California, to actress Maggie Baird and theater teacher Patrick O’Connell. Her parents are Irish and Scottish, and she has an older brother named Finneas. Her and her brother were both homeschooled.

Eilish and her brother Finneas were exposed to music at a young age and encouraged by their parents to explore a variety of performance and creative arts because both of their parents were musicians. Eilish wrote her first song when she was 11 years old and began writing and producing music with her brother when she was 13 years old.

Following the success of Ocean Eyes, Eilish and her brother re-released “Six Feet Under” as their second single on SoundCloud. Eilish then signed a deal with Interscope Records and steadily grew her fan base as she continued to release new music with the assistance of her brother. She released her first full-length EP, “Don’t Smile at Me,” in August of 2017, and went on her first tour in October of that year after performing at the popular South by Southwest music festival in March.

Spotify helped propel Eilish’s career by including her music on some of their most popular playlists, and Apple Music named Eilish a “Up Next” artist in September of 2017.

In the beginning of 2018, Eilish began her second headlining tour, the “Where’s My Mind Tour,” and in October of that year, she signed a talent contract with Next Management for various fashion and beauty campaigns. In November, Forbes named her to their “30 Under 30” list. Eilish set a Spotify record in January 2019 by becoming the youngest artist to have more than 1 billion streams on a single project with her EP “Don’t Smile at Me.”

Eilish released her debut album, “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” in March 2019, which included the singles “Bury a Friend” and “When I Was Older.”

Her album tour began at the 2019 Coachella Festival in California and ended in Mexico City in November. Eilish was nominated for six Grammy Awards in the same month, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, and Best New Artist. She was the youngest artist to be nominated in all four General Field categories at the age of 17. She won all four categories at the 2020 Grammy Awards, becoming the first woman and the youngest person to do so. In addition, it was announced in 2020 that Eilish would perform the title track for the newest James Bond film, “No Time to Die,” which her brother would write and produce.
