Early Years

Khaled Mohamed Khaled was born to immigrant Palestinian parents on November 26, 1975, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He has identified as a devoted Muslim. Actor Alec Ledd, who is his brother, is Alaa Khaled. His parents were Arabic music performers. When Khaled was a young child, his parents encouraged his passion in rap and soul music. His employment at a nearby record shop served as the starting point for his musical career.

Career

Khaled first gained notoriety in the 1990s as a DJ on Miami’s 99 Jamz hip-hop radio station. The reason the band Terror Squad chose Khaled as their DJ was because of his work at the radio station. After earning some experience with Terror Squad, Khaled transitioned into album curation and released his debut studio album, “Listennn… the Album,” in 2006. Following the release of “We The Best” in 2007, “We Global” in 2008, “Victory” in 2010, “We the Best Forever” in 2011, “Kiss the Ring” in 2012, “Suffering from Success” in 2013, “I Changed A Lot” in 2015, “Major Key” in 2016, “Grateful” in 2017, and “Father of Asahd” in 2019, Khaled has released additional music.

DJ Khaled recently released a new video for “Wish Wish” with Cardi B and 21 Savage on May 21. The video, which was directed by Khaled and Eif Rivera, has a lot of explosions, flames, and motocross riders. It resembles a B-level street-racing film that was rushed into production in the early 2000s to capitalize on the success of the original Fast and the Furious.

Legal Concerns

Khaled agreed to a $750,000 settlement with the Securities and Exchange Commission in November 2018 for failing to disclose payments he had received from initial coin offering issuers. He specifically mentioned a $50,000 promotional payment he received personally from Centra Tech Inc., a troubled cryptocurrency company whose co-founders had been charged with fraud in May 2018. Boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. was also charged in this incident, and the SEC stated that “these are its first instances involving charges for breaking restrictions on advertising investments in so-called initial coin offerings, or ICOs.”
